This year Laka has:

  • Launched Core in the UK, essential cover for theft, third party and legal
  • Raised a chunky funding round (and featured in the likes of Forbes)
  • Welcomed Cylantro to the Lakaverse 🇫🇷
  • Operated in a whole bunch of new countries (hello Austria and Denmark), with many more to come soon.  We're taking Europe one bit at a time! 🇪🇺
  • Won ‘Best Cycle Insurance Provider’ for the SIXTH time running.
  • Launched some top-notch partnerships inc. Sigma Sports, Decathlon UK & Cycles UK
  • Made embedded insurance possible with Gazelle
  • Got together IRL for a company offsite at Woburn Forest

New products!

2023 was the year we added to our bicycle insurance product lineup. With Core! Giving cyclists essential insurance for theft, third party and legal. Core aims to give more cyclists access to the Laka model and help save money in the process too!

Secured $8 million in funding

We made an appearance in none other than Forbes 😱 as we secured an impressive $8 million in funding led by the French mobility fund Shift4Good.

Other investors in the funding include Autotech Ventures, Porsche Ventures, Creandum, Ponooc, ABN AMRO Ventures, 1818 Venture Capital and Elkstone Partners. Kerching.

Bonjour Cylantro 🇫🇷

But the news doesn’t stop there. We also acquired Cylantro, a France-based e-bike insurance broker in a bid to strengthen our foothold in the French market and provide a range of insurance and circular economy services to e-bike riders.

We’ll continue expanding beyond insurance, into a platform focussed on the Green Mobility transition. Watch this space.

Hello Austria & Denmark

With our embedded group insurance (more on that later) we welcomed new customers in Austria and Denmark! With many more countries to come soon.

Made embedded insurance possible with Gazelle

Through partnering with Gazelle we made embedded Laka insurance possible by giving Gazelle Connected e-bikes 12 months of theft cover included in the bike purchase.

Our embedded set-up means we can serve more customers than ever before, including new territories!

Woburn Forest - The Laka team shredding the forest! 🚵🌲

In September the full Laka team got together in real life! As a remote-first company, we’re usually split between our offices in London, Amsterdam, Bristol and further afield. So meeting up at Centre Parcs Woburn Forest was the ideal opportunity to bond, and of course, head out on two wheels.

But we didn’t just ride our bikes once this year!
