The women who are cycling for a greener city - Olivia
Name: Olivia
Location: South East London
Current commuting bike: Sometimes Condor, sometimes Tern HSD e-bike if I’m feeling tired.
Favourite commuting kit: My Laka x Rapha Bib shorts (of course) and my personalised initialed cycling gloves for the winter
Why do you pick cycling as your transport?: To avoid public transport and get some exercise in at the same time. It’s also a good way to clear your head at the end of the day.
What is the most useful cycling tip you have received?: Use london.cyclestreets to discover new quietways and different commuting routes. It’s super helpful if you want to avoid confusing and busy roads.
Why do you think it is important to get women cycling?: Because it’s a great, convenient way to get around, and everyone should feel safe and set up to do so.
What do you think is the biggest barrier to women cycling?: Lack of confidence and the whole logistics of commuting can be a lot! I think as a women you are often juggling so many things such as nursery drop-offs and pickups that sometimes it seems a headache to figure it all out.
Your favourite environmentally friendly habit?: Using the Tern e-bike for our weekly food shop instead of the car, and going to refill shops as much as possible.
